Keep BYU–Hawaii on One Line
All forms of the university's name use an en dash except for the shortest version, BYUH. This can become problematic when the text flow puts the name at the end of a sentence and breaks the name at the en-dash. It looks odd and leaves the name incomplete. This is especially common on responsive websites where the text layout changes on different devices (desktop screen vs. mobile screen).
To avoid this, use a zero width joiner to prevent the name from being broken at that point.
- Type out or paste your text with the name of the university into the application or document.
- Go to the Zero Width Joiner page on the Unicode Explorer website.
- Click on the "Copy" button in the "Copy to the clipboard" section.
- Go back to the university name and paste the copied code on both sides of the en-dash.
Note that you will not see anything in the text, but it should have the intended effect of keeping the BYU, en-dash, and Hawaii all together.
Now BYU–Hawaii will not be separated no matter the width of the text box or flow of the text.
