AI-Generated Content
Use AI to assist creativity, not replace it.
Appropriate Uses of AI
- Use AI to explore ideas, concepts and visual directions.
- Use AI to edit photos and other visual content that BYU–Hawaii has the rights or appropriate permission to use.
- Use AI to assist with editing text content you have drafted.
If You Use AI-Generated Content
- Edit and refine AI-generated images and content to fit the specific communication.
- Incorporate approved BYU–Hawaii typography, colors and identity elements.
- Make sure the final content feels intentional and connected to the university.
Inappropriate Uses of AI
- Never use AI to write communications or messaging from scratch without human direction, review and editing.
- Never use AI-generated content simply because it looks impressive.
- Never use AI to recreate or modify official BYU–Hawaii logos or identity marks.
- Do not upload or edit photos, artwork or other content in AI tools when BYU–Hawaii does not have the rights or permission to use that content.
- Never assume AI-generated content is accurate, culturally appropriate or ready to publish without human review.
- Do not use AI to create inaccurate imagery representing Hawaii, students, people or campus.
- Never use AI to create images of Jesus Christ.
Before using AI-generated content, ask:
- Does this look and feel like BYU–Hawaii?
- Does it reflect our mission and values?
- Does it obviously look AI-generated?
- Have I reviewed the image for inaccurate, distorted or culturally inappropriate details?
Generative AI can be helpful for brainstorming, exploring concepts and creating visual assets. However, AI-generated graphics often have a recognizable “AI look” that can make communications feel disconnected from the BYU–Hawaii brand.
AI-generated elements should be thoughtfully edited and incorporated into a cohesive design rather than used as-is.
